last night i had a long list of things to get through. some of them were substantial, concrete things that required action or research. some of them were simply "run", "eat dinner", "be happy". not that i have to remind myself to do these things, or that i forgot to eat or be happy...i don't know, i guess i find myself cute sometimes. :P
so i whipped myself up a small dinner containing vegetables, chicken, and tortillas - plopped myself down onto my big green pillow, set my laptop down on my miniature red chair and put in "about a boy". fortunately, my laptop froze half way through it, just as i finished my dinner - which meant that i then had to get up and go finish the rest of my list (which i did complete by the way!).
but i love that movie...
john donne's "meditation xvii" was one of my favorite pieces of literature in middle school. i was fascinated by it. it even inspired my very first poem that i ever wrote. it is quite morbid, but part of an english class project was to write our own epitaphs...(yeah, seriously). but i loved it. we had to create our own headstones on which the epitaphs were written. i remember staying up late the night before with my mum to finish the project. it was beautiful. i drew this angel on the top - one of my best pieces of work. i have a feeling its probably thrown away now. the teacher took the projects but never gave them back. people came up to me after class and asked "did you really write that?" i was so proud and happy.
"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." - John Donne
