letters.

yesterday was a good day.

imagine. waking up at 4am because it is too hot. getting in to the office around 6:30 cause there's nothing else to do. you get some busy work out of the way, but you take your time...you have time, no one else will be in for another hour.

and then you get started cleaning out an old office that has had things piling up for years. you get that squared away and you're hit with a sense of fulfillment. you've accomplished something, and there the results are before your eyes.

you talk on the phone to a dear friend, and you get a letter in the mail...just think, real mail! and it's for you!

you connect with an israeli for a few minutes as you work out probelms of relocation and office space.

you finalize dates on a project that seeminly has no end, and it feels that much more towards completion.

you post a new photo on your flickr account, one which you would think would not get any comments, and you find a few are nice enough to comment on it - this makes you happy.

after work you head home to change. you dance lightly around the construction that is taking place in front of your flat, and you go in and change. you rest for a minute, and head up to the Shrine where you will meet your sister for a Pilgrim Farewell. And on the way you listen to the new songs you've put on your phone. i've not yet gotten in the habit of just playing them out loud...i still use ear phones. i'm not israeli just yet.

while at the pilgrim house you run into some other friends from long ago who were there on pilgrimage and you chat and laugh and are fascinated by the PhD's they are undergoing - religious minorities in mideival england, and retranslating from old english an old tale called "the knight and the swans".

you pray. you circumambulate. you get back to the PH, and that's when you start to yawn and the waking up at 4am begins to get to you...so you amble back on home. where you eat dinner your flatmate had prepared and left for you. you sit down on your big green cushion, do some work on the computer and slowly drift to sleep. but you don't close your eyes then! no, you get the energy to get up to lie down in your bed, not before reading the letter you got that day for a second time, put some music on with your phone (kings of convenience) - and that's when darkness descends.

you have AMAZING dreams. (but i won't share what they were, they'll be my secret.)

it was a great day.
