but i love it.

morning surprise

in the past, and its really because of the condition of my house and its surrounding environs, periodically if you open a drawer you might find an ant or a roach (that is much too big to be just a roach...they are more like the prehistoric ancestors of these filthy little...they do live long enough). kholaseh, i was suprised today when i went to go fix my morning meal of eggs and toritillas that there, scrunched real tight into the corner of the drawer so as not to be seen, was a little tan lizard, about the size of my pinky.

at first i didn't know what to do, but then i calmly got my utensils out and slowly closed the drawer again.

this little fellow must be the reason the ants and the roaches have not been seen lately - so it's better just to let him be i guess.

but the real surprise was when i went to turn on the burner to heat up the skillet and the fire wouldn't ignite - there was no gas. :P

never give up, never surrender!

i had this quote bouncing around in my head now for a couple of days, "never give up, never surrender". i just googled it now to find out where it was from. i had been hoping that it was the once famous battle cry of a war-hardened general of the American Revolution, or of one of the World Wars - and then from there it would allow me to delve into their lives since i already, clearly, had a connection...

i was utterly disappointed, slightly bemused, but disappointed nonetheless. it's from the movie "galaxy quest" starring tim allen. this was apparently HIS way of rallying the troops. curiously enough, this movie also stars rainn wilson - he's some sort of alien if i remember correctly.

three things. firstly, its funny how some things just stick in your head. i haven't seen this movie for yeeears. i found it hilarious when i first watched it (i should watch it again just to test what my reaction would be), and i haven't seen anything since that would sort of revive it from my consciousness.

secondly, it's important, i guess, to look for the wisdom in everything, even if it just might be only a movie quote...let's see. ah, two of my best friends just left the world centre, and more will be leaving shortly. it's been tough, and it will continue to be for a while i think. so, "never give up, never surrender"...to...the...sadness...

finally, i hate the fact that this dumb quote has stayed in my head taking up space...when i clearly could have, and should have, replaced it with a quote from the Baha'i Writings. it just goes to show that ideas can stick, so be careful of what you let in.

oh, and also, check out my latest edition to blog coolness (upper left) - it's called a widget. all the hip kids are getting one (hmm, note: if you are cool, you probably don't use the term "hip" - Drat!).
