i entered my toasty room (i had forgotten to turn off my heater – fortunately) and I crawled into my blankets (i was thinking at this point i might make some analogy about the blankets being like toasty bread…but then i didn’t like what that would eventually make me, so we’ll stop there). i lay there awake, just sort of letting myself get lost in the infinitude of things when the fireworks started, to be soon joined by the dulcet tones of a baker’s dozen drunks – who in their immediate intelligence thought it might be quite exhilarating to smash glass bottles on the street outside my window and against some nearby walls – an act we all know is a staple when it comes to welcoming the new year.
i contemplated going out there and making them stop (take a moment to laugh), but then decided to play some music instead. and so there i lay, enya soothing me to sleep and fireworks bursting outside my window, thoughts drifting in and out of my conscious mind – one stuck: i am in the middle east.
i am in the middle east…beast…weast…tweest…i am in the beetle’s beast…least…meats…keats…i like keats…neats…pete’s…feast…feet…feets
my eye’s closed.
i chose to wear black today – yes, i know, what colors to welcome in a new year! – i’ve decided to tell whoever asks that i’m in mourning for 2007…but in reality, i just need to do some laundry.
goal for new year: keep your Eye open.
