awkward moments

i love witnessing awkward moments. i may turn red and blush...but those of you who know me realize that i do this with everything...so...but more than witnessing awkward moments, i love creating them.

today my office threw a small birthday party for me. i walked downstairs to see a lovely spread of cake and snacks and then the most lovely surprise of all was that one of our local workers, Lee (who just had a baby) was sitting in Theresa's office gently cradling her 8 week year old.

i promptly sat down and just stared intently. yes...i did get to hold him. my shoulder still smells of baby and it was the best gift i could have received today. such a rush of love...nothing else...just surged up my body, tingling my spine, letting me know that "yup...i'll have my own one day". Al then walked in to say "Now Lee, giving away your baby is much too generous of a gift for Geoffrey!"

ah! but the awkward bit. i was successfully directing conversation away from myself, but everyone kept asking me to impart words of wisdom. so it began. "i came into this office fairly green - but over the past year and a half i have experienced so much, and each of you have contributed to it immensely. you've all tested me in your own...unique ways..." ~silence~and then a burst of confused, comical and indignant remarks erupted from all sides.

needless to say, i was dying of laughter inside, while trying to maintain a sincere expression (Al was in the back nodding his head in approval, ruha was having trouble holding back the giggles and yasmin was busy trying to tell everyone that "hellooo, this is Geoffrey here - don't take him seriously) - this office has grown into a bit of a family and we all take digs at each other. it was hilarious. but in my defense, as i stated then, i am operating on minimal sleep right now - my mental and verbal guard isn't working.
